Chulabhorn Pattana 12 Village, Sukhirin Sub-district, Sukhirin District, Narathiwat Province is a Thai-Malaysian Border Islamic village. In the past, the 10th Malayan people army fought for independence of Malaya and became people jointly developing Thailand after signing in a trilateral peace agreement of Thai government, Malaysian government and Malaya Communist Party in 1989. They jointly established a village named Rattanakitti 4 Village. Later, Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn visited people in 1993 and desired to develop and restore environment and livelihood of people. She granted the name of the village as Chulabhorn Pattana 12 Village, by allocating 15-Rai area for each family to earn a living as well as sharing 3,500 Rai of area for mutual benefits. However, the villagers used 2,404 Rai and the remaining area for 1,096 Rai was returned as forest. In addition, the community forest committee was set up to take care of forests around the mountains along Thai-Malaysian Border together with forestry officers.

From the past that they lived with the forest, relationship for coexistence between humans and between humans and nature is determined. The relationship contributes to implanting behaviors including respect to forests and natures, discipline from military training turning to a guideline for managing 10,000 Rai of forest to restore degenerated upstream forests. The discipline is placed in the community for villagers to have habit in keeping areas clean and maintaining the upstream forests and forests around the village. So, this is the origin of occupation, food, medicine and life capital. Furthermore, there is a rule that animal hunting is prohibited, and there is no clear evidence that anyone violates this rule.

Narathiwat Cultural Office selected Chulabhorn Pattana 12 Village, Sukhirin District, as a pilot tourist attraction of Narathiwat Province to promote community tourism according to Barom On Tour project because the community passes the criteria of moral community and has outstanding features of coexistence with nature accordantly. It also conserves Saiburi upstream with historical strengths as those taking part in developing the Thai nation and food with unique menus.
