If we can choose what our life will be, disability must be a thing that we do not want it to happen with us or our beloved ones. However, when encountering this fate whether it is innate disability, or disability caused by severe events, accidents or illnesses, we have to live our life as long as we still breath. We need to live with dignity of human, and can access basic rights with protection from the government, and care from surrounding people without discrimination. Importantly, the potentials of people with disabilities should not be neglected because people with disabilities are not completely incompetent, but they can get education, practice how to take care of themselves in daily life, and earn income from a proper occupation.

Previously, when talking about situations of people with disabilities in southern-birder provinces, the Southern-Border Provinces Administration Center (SBPAC) cooperated with government sectors such as local hospital i.e. Sirindhorn National Medical Rehabilitation Center, and the private sectors including provincial clubs and associations for people with disabilities, and council of people with disabilities of all kinds to propel the operations and help people with disabilities in the area continuously. At local level, there are graduate volunteers for homeland development in the villages to support this operation by surveying and collecting information for further works, and following up progress in assisting the people with disabilities and underprivileged people. According to the survey of people with disabilities in the areas, there are about 30,000 underprivileged people in 11 different types.

Promoting and encouraging people with disabilities

Mixed Sufficiency Economy Career Center for People with Disabilities in Community, Yala Province is located in Sa-Ae Sub-district, Krong Penang District, Yala Province, and it is the public sector as an example of determination in promoting and solving problems for people with disabilities and underprivileged people in the area to live their own life. This center is vigorous because it was established in December 2019 and inaugurated in February 2020. The founder is Mrs. Suena Disa-ae who empowered local people with disabilities to be confident with their living in the society as equally and fairly as normal people. She believed that if the people with disabilities and underprivileged people have an opportunity to take care of and develop their quality of life and earn a living, they can live independently with human dignity and equality as others.

Before setting up the center, Mrs. Suena is innately disabled. When she was young, she studied with others with so many difficulties. There was nothing to support and assist people with disabilities and thus she was determined to help people with disabilities and that she had a chance to work for her disabled friends. With role of the president of southern people with disabilities association, the president of Yala people with disabilities club and vice president of the council for people with disabilities of all kind of Yala Province, she worked and surveyed information of local people with disabilities in Yala Province. The pilot area was Raman District, Yaha District and Krong Penang District. She gathered information of people with disabilities and underprivileged people who need to develop their potentials by trying to discuss with people of the disabled people such as parents, relatives and siblings that they would not stay forever. It is necessary for them to stand up and take care of themselves. Furthermore, she coordinated to request assistance from government sector such as SBPAC, ISOC and private organization like The Redemptorist Foundation for People with Disabilities.

Stand up to fight for self-reliance

In a group of people with disabilities and underprivileged people, gathered by Khun Suena, there are16 persons who can take care of themselves and have a good opportunity to study in an educational institution for people with disabilities like Pattaya Redemptorist Technological College for People with Disabilities that they can earn a living. They also can be a voice to take care of people with disabilities in the area. Additionally, the people with disabilities were taken to have a field trip and Mixed Sufficiency Economy Career Center for People with Disabilities in Community, Yala Province was established to support people with disabilities to learn about agriculture. The areas in this center are learning sources that they can apply it to work and earn additional income for them. There is a lecturer to transmit knowledge to people with disabilities and promote them to practice as a lecturer in different aspects. This comes with expectation that they will be a model who can inspire people with disabilities and underprivileged people to stand up and live their lives because their caregiver cannot stay with them forever. Moreover, people will realize that persons in this group exist in the society, emphasize people with disabilities, collaboratively provide assistance under a principle of potential promotion for people with disabilities, and understand that the people with disabilities can live their life by themselves and earn a living.

Currently, Mixed Sufficiency Economy Career Center for People with Disabilities in Community, Yala Province operates work in for if mixed sufficiency economy, growing organic vegetables, raising ducks and chickens that the products are distributed in front of the career promotion for people with disabilities center so that the people with disabilities can earn income. Moreover, it has a plan to construct a network of people with disabilities who want to grow organic vegetables to earn income. The Center will gather the products and sell them at Krong Penang Market in the name of organic vegetables from the people with disabilities group.  Speaking of knowledge enhancement, the career promotion for people with disabilities center has been supported lecturers from the 4714th Ranger Forces Battalion, the 47th Ranger Forces Regiment to provide knowledge about mushroom cultivation, and give advice about sufficiency economy. They paid much attention to this lecture and could do themselves but may need longer time than normal people.
